Hi,
SPS will automatically send out an 855 to your TP as soon as they receive the EDI transmission and regardless if you've accepted it and received it into Epicor. SPS will of course make sure the 850 is received correctly and all is fine with the 850 before they send out the 855.
Are you doing the full integrated solution? Or just web forms with SPS? If you're talking FTP then it sounds like you're doing the full integrated solution but that's just a guess. The reason you need FTP is because SPS will send you either a txt file or an xml which is formatted for you to be able to import into Epicor however you decide. We use service connect for the importing into Epicor but there are other methods. I get a txt file from the SPS FTP site and that txt file gets consumed by SC, which then in turn puts it in to Demand Entry then we turn that into orders either automatically or a human decides.
SPS is going to be your middle man taking EDI data and turning into xml or txt files that Epicor can work with. On the way out, SPS takes your txt files or xmls and turns them into EDI data and send it out to your Tps. The FTP site is hosted by SPS and that's the means by which you'll exchange files with SPS only.
For sending out data to SPS like 810 or 856s I use BAMs to trigger auto printing of the edi report style which creates my txt file which then gets FTP'd to SPS..

Mark - thanks for the info!
Jose- No we don't use Service Connect and we usually skip creating workflows by using data directives. Also, our trading partner is very flexible and I think they could be sending the Company number in the PO (fingers crossed!) Also, going back to the FTP question. while I wait to see if SPS can host the FTP server, what setting do need to be changed within Epicor to receive automatically the 850s in the Inbound file from the FTP server; and for SPS to automatically collect the 855s from out Outbound file and save it to their FTP directory? Any guidelines? We are looking into using Filezilla but I am not well versed in that interface.
Thanks!!</div> <div style="color:#fff;min-height:0;"></div>

Pretty new with EDI. I am looking into implement EDi in our organization. We are partnering with SPS Commerce as our EDI mapping provider. Also, we are trying to set up a FTP server to exchange EDI files with SPS. What are the security requirements we need to consider in order to configure this safely? Also, does it need to be shared with the Trading Partner as well?

Thanks Jose! I have been trying to get an answer from SPS about this but they are not very responsive. Another doubt: Is this service at an additional cost? Also, if we are a web form customer do we still need to set up an FTP with SPS? or they take care of it as well?

Thanks! Also would you like to know how to set up EDI for a multi-company or multi-plant environment?
As far as mapping I have a consultant that is very reasonable that has helped us
If interested I can give you both names and numbers for these folks,
