Get Opportunity/Quote creates 2nd order?

Creating Sales Order from Quote – Kinetic 2024.2.pdf (150.8 KB)

Engineering quotes often takes longer than getting deposits and finance doesn’t like sitting on the checks. From reading the attached instructions I collected from the user help section we should be able to create an order, apply a customer deposit payment to that order, then pull in the quote details with “Get Opportunity/Quote” from the overflow menu.

However by following the attached instructions our result is 2 orders. The first one we created with the deposit and a 2nd that Sales Order Entry creates when we select “Get Opportunity/Quote”.

Epicare tells me the instructions are wrong and that the system is functioning as designed. This seems contrary to any logical business process. They even insinuated that the instructions may not have come from Epicor. How can they publish incorrect instructions for this simple task?

I’ve checked our Pilot and Education dbases and they both function the same way. Is this really how it works?

Epicare suggested we pull in the lines from the quote individually, but this is a very time consuming task with quotes that have 30-40 lines.

Should I go down the BPM or Function route next or is there something I’m missing?

Can Finance deposit the checks On Account in Cash Receipt Entry? And then apply the UR against the invoice afterwards? That’s what we do much of the time, we also gave them a dashboard that sort of matches URs with shipment Invoices to help them see quickly what is ready for payment application. But I understand there are advantages to it being a SO Deposit.

As far as Get Opportunity Quote, I think that it is how it works and the article is likely wrong/misleading. Haven’t tried this in the Browser but I know in Classic at least that the Get Opportunity Quote Actions menu option is one of the few non-read only options when there is no Sales Order already loaded into the screen. So it does make sense that it creates a separate Order.
