Handling long lead time parts

Are there best practices around using long lead time purchased parts e.g. 120+ days.

Our company has a few of those parts that impact when we can schedule a job but we are seeing unusual results when running MRP.

A couple of initial thoughts on your question: We found days of supply very important to ensure that POs that were not coming for a long long time were counted and we didn’t keep seeing suggestions to get them in. Also, we have little to no control on expediting these long lead POs, so we lock the date and quantity on the PO release so that we do not get change suggestions.
