Harmful effects

Easier Answer

Relocate to Delaware
Our no smoking indoors law is just about to go into effect.
No Smoking In Public/Business Buildings - No Place - No How

Our local government in action........

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 16, DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO THE CLEAN INDOOR AIR
ACT.
Synopsis:This Act updates the Delaware Clean Indoor Air Act to restrict
exposure to smoking and second hand smoke by prohibiting smoking in any
enclosed area to which the general public is invited and includes any area
within 20 feet of any entrance or exit to such restricted areas. Second-hand
smoke has been classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Class
A carcinogen. This is the same classification as direct inhalation of
tobacco smoke, and is a proven chemical which causes cancer in humans.
Exposure to second hand smoke also increases the risk for low weight babies;
leads to decreased lung function, asthma, pneumonia, ear infections and
bronchitis in children and nearly doubles the risk of heart attacks. This
legislation will help protect children and other nonsmokers from these risks
and help improve the health of Delawareans.

Anyone know of a place on the internet where I could go to get a report
about the harmful effects of nicotine and cigarette smoking on computer
equipment?
I have a office environment where the floppy cables and hard drive
cables inside the computer on the floor are so dark burnt yellow its not
funny.
I just stuck about $2,000 of new equipment in their office and we want
to come up with a company policy to dis allow smoking in the office's

Can you believe we are dealing with something like this in this day and
age?

Thanks

I think the harmful effects on the body should be enough, computers are
replaceable. I'd refer to the warning on the packaging.

I'm surprised you Company does not have an anti-smoking policy.

I would think the health of just one non-smoker would be more reason than
100 computers.
Think of the legal issues involved if someone decided to sue because the
working environment was the "cause" of their lung cancer.

If nothing turns up, pull in some help from your Human Resources department.
I would think that there would be studies that back up higher turnover and
difficulty to hire non-smokers not to mention uncomfortable working
conditions.

Unfortunately you are heading into winter...harder to get them to take it
outside. Timing is everything...wait until late February, early March and
hope you don't get a spring blizzard on your first week.

Why the need for an excuse? Unless the top management is opposed a simple
decree to ban smoking in the building should be enough. That's what we did.
Most states have some form of "Clean Indoor Air" rules that allow (or often
demand) restrictions.

Do you have management support? If you have the top guy at your company
saying NO SMOKING inside these offices as of such and such a date-your
problem is solved.....you have new company policy set and enforceable. Will
he/she enforce it? There is the question.

I agree with the other comments......employee health issues and law suits
should be the things that get management's attention. Computers get the
side benefit.
