Has anyone used APM for AIA Project Billing?

Has anyone setup the Advanced Project Management module to do AIA Billing? We acquired a company and they are in the construction business so deal with GCs and Architects and have their own processes for billing projects. I’ve never used the APM module so not sure the milestones would match the needs of AIA billing.

Google AI says this about what AIA Project Billing is:

I’ve only used Advance Project Billing, which is where one might expect this. I have not used Advanced Project Management. (Written by Precise if recall.)

I believe you’re correct there. I’ll look into Advanced Project Billing too.

Hey @Randy I’m in the process of implementing APM. We are a metal building manufacturer so this is how we bill all of our buildings. We are still working through all of the details but we have Project Accounting, Contract Management, and Subcontract Management from APM. The contract management is the part that’s really handling the billing. We translate the G703 to lines and line items that we can bill off of.

We’re still pretty early in the implementation process with Precise (they’re the epicor partner who developed APM) but I can try and answer any other specific questions you have.

Oh, it’s quite possible in either! It just feels more natural to sit beside CostPlus, Manual, Customer Shipment and the other billing methods.

Thanks @cory.davis you’ve answered the big one. We’re just researching how to bring the new acquisition into Epicor as we don’t do this type of contract billing with our existing business so this is all new to us.

How’s the implementation going? Any Pros/Cons you could share?

It’s going well so far, the consultants we’ve worked with from Precise really know their stuff and understand how a project based business runs as far as setting up budgets and billing for different categories.

There is a lot that goes into the Contract module that is more complicated than regular invoicing, but we’re doing a new implementation and coming from Quickbooks so it was going to be a big change anyway.

I had been working on several ways we were going to try to squeeze what we needed out of Advanced Project Billing then I did the EE course for APM at Insights this year and it was pretty clearly the right solution for us.

I have a customer that will give you an earfull since they “Debugged” the Precise interface for Epicor. Precise is from Australia so their is a pesky 12 hour difference that made getting fixes frustrating.

I will pass on this thread and hopefully they will be willing to chime in.

Back in E9 days we implemented standard projects with milestone billing. They were a services company. It might be worth starting there before you jump into APM.

Happy to help, but been a while though.

We should projects with milestone billing would work but there is the whole costing, Statement of Values, and specific billing needs that the standard modules won’t meet.

We went through some of that with the new ASC 606/IFR 15 revenue recognition rule changes. Epicor added revenue recognition by phase, which was a huge improvement.

Does it handle retention and SOV?

Our situation was simpler but I wanted to use the “Construction” style of billing, or Fixed Fee.

This is where a SOV would be. Our billing schedule was simple - 90% down, 10% at completion. There were sign-offs for each schedule of works and that defined revenue recognition.
