Dick,

You need to double-backslash the path names to avoid "escaping" the
characters, like so:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]
"UrlAllowList"="V:\\mfgsys61\\HELP\\vnhelp_enu.chm;file://; [file://;]"


Also, make sure that you have the following change too:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\itssRestrictions]
"MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000003



To make this easy to deploy to all Win7 users, x86 and x64, you can cut
and paste the following into a text file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\itssRestrictions]
"MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]
"UrlAllowList"="V:\\mfgsys61\\HELP\\vnhelp_enu.chm;file://; [file://;]"

---cut above---

Save the file as "Win7_Vantage_help.reg" or something similar, as long
as the file extension is ".reg"; you can double-click the file on the
targeted machine and it will import the changes into the registry.

Windows XP mode? The VM on Win 7, not compatibility mode. Once you get the VM up you have the option of making it so that the shortcut is available within Win7. When launched it will just launch the program, you will not see the full VM come up. The downside is that it takes patience. If the VM isnt already running you must wait until it comes up like you would any other computer. However it presents similar to a citrix application.
