We sell personalized items like aprons with embroidered text. Usually single items (as opposed to hundreds the same). What is the best way to handle this in Kinetic? Where would the text go when placing the order? Also it would need to be inserted into a Work Order to make them.
Every search I do for personalization or customizing come up with changing the user interface.
There are several different options. If all you need is to capture the personalized text on the order and have it flow to the job, the easiest is probably to use the Order > Line > Pick List/Job Comment field. This will automatically flow to the job and you can have it print on the job traveler.
Other options would be to create and use a UD field or repurpose some other already-existing field. Both of these would take a bit more work to have it flow to the job.
What Jeff said. Going to a configurator (CPQ or Classic) is overkill if you the personalization material qty and costs isn’t significant.
If you have a separate part num for the customized version, you can have MRP pick it up, and create the job with the Job Comments field from the line. You can also customize the Order Entry screen to put the comments field in a logical place (like the grid next to partnum, qty…).
Also, may need to update the some SSRS report styles to add the comment (great for ensuring customer got what they ordered!).
