How would I go about limiting the size of releases in Kinetic?

Hello! I work for a company that makes large electrical products, and we are talking about limiting the size of our releases to be only what would fit on a single semi load. (Somewhere around 8 units.) Is this a BPM would have to be created for or is this something we can do out of the job, just that I am missing. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

If you have MRP to suggest jobs based on demand, then you can set the lot sizes in Part Entry > Sites > Planning Details. In there you can set the Min/Max lot size, as well as many other options.

However, this does not address the size of the releases. If you want to limit the size of the sales order release, that would be done with a BPM and a directive.

I bet you could tuck all of this functionality into a function!

Would you want to control this on the job level or on a sales order release level (which then drives the job demand)?

Perhaps add a UD column on the Part that the BPM could reference, or use the Lot Size on the Part Record (as @NateS noted above).

Then the BPM would break a sales order line into multiple releases on the Sales Order… So, if you had an order for qty 24, you would end up with (3) order releases and (3) jobs, each for a qty of (8).

That’s my first thought, anyway.

Building off of @dcamlin - check out the attributes tab on the Part.
You already have Length, Width and Height avilable.

On the Sales Order Release you have some field that you could leverage

Something else to consider is to utilize Staging shipments.
You could create a separate pack slip for each pack slip.
Create a dashboard that would allow you to review what is ready to ship and using the Sales Release fields group the various shipments to fit into a truck.

You also have weight and volume

They too can come into play when using customer shipment entry/Staging/Master Pack.

Another way using the ShipVia might be another option.
Semi = 8 Units
B-Double = 16 Units
B-Triple = 24 Units

The shipvia on the customer shipment entry is the variable that updates the qty when you do the ship all on the SO Lines.

Other considerations that you may have other SO lines other than the Units you build, I don’t know your business so not sure if that would be a thing.

And just in case you were wonderin we have Semis in Australia that have three trailers.
