Hyperlinks

Is there any way to add a hyperlink to the paperclip on a job, sales order, and so on?

That paperclip icon represents the Document Attachment functionality, and yes, you can set it up to store a hyperlink.

This is one of those areas I need to relearn every time I do it, so with that caveat…

Your profile says you’re on Kinetic 2024, so I’m assuming you use the Kinetic interface.

Open Attachment Type Maintenance, click the “+” to create a new type.

Select “Link” in the Storage Type field, then check the “Enabled” and “Company Default” checkboxes. Click Save.

Open Document Type Maintenance, click the “+” to create a new type.

Enter an ID and Description, and select “Attachment Link” as the Storage Type. Click Save.

NOTE: you can have as many or as few Document Types as you wish, but if you’re NOT using a Document Management system, you probably don’t need more than one.

Log out of Epicor and then go back in.

Now whenever you click on one of those paperclips, it will present all the items already attached, and ask if you want to add new ones.

I probably missed a step somewhere, but give this a shot and check the system help!

One thing to keep in mind is that Kinetic is ONLY storing the hyperlink. If the item linked to gets moved or deleted, when someone clicks on the link they’ll just get a 404 “page not found” error.
