Implementing Vantage - CLIENT HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

Rick,

By very slowly, I mean 30-50 seconds for vantage to start up (compared to 10
seconds or less on faster PC's or terminal server). Up to 10 minutes for
purchasing suggestions to run to compared to 2 minutes or less on faster
PC's and Terminal server. I haven't timed the system going from screen to
screen, but on the faster pc's it is instantaneous, on those machines it
takes several seconds between each action, and transactions or reports that
require more data can take 15-20 seconds, which feels like forever when your
waiting.

Terminal Server is not the same thing as Citrix. Terminal server is
Microsoft's thin client solution. We use it alone, without Citrix. We use
terminal server for our remote sites to connect to our server and for our
clients here that need faster connections. The only limits are the number
of terminal server licenses and the power of the terminal server pc. The
terminal server pc has to have enough resources to perform well for all of
the client connections. Vantage should be the only software installed on
this PC. We have a P3, 733, 512 MB RAM, with 12 available client
connections, but typically only 2-4 simultaneous connections.

Hello All-

We are implementing Vantage for the first time at our location (however, the
accounting dept. has been using Vantage 3.0 for A/P & G/L for the past
couple of years). I remember reading several messages in the past regarding
client computer speed, memory, hard drive requirements, but can't recall
what the suggested mimimums are. I fear that because most of our machines
(10 of them in total) are a little older (Gateways with 32 MB of RAM, 166
MHz, & 1.51 GB hard drives), we may have a problem with speed (I'd like to
anticipate any problems/have an idea how slow BEFORE we go live in a few
weeks). For our other local location, we are installing a Citrix server in
order for them to work with Vantage. Any suggests on whether or not we are
going to have problems (approx. time delays) with our current hardware? Any
input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

If you are going on 4.0, those machines will run Vantage, but very slowly.
We have some machines with those specs here and get lots of complaints. It
depends on how much those users will be using Vantage. We have started
using terminal server in the same location to speed those machines up for
some users and it works much better.

Sarah-

Thanks for your input. When you say "very slowly", approximately how long
does it take for screens to load, etc? Also, by a "terminal server", I
assume you mean Citrix (I'm NOT a computer person, just act like one!). Not
knowing Citrix that well (it is to be installed Monday for our 6 or so
machines at our North location (other side of town) that will be using
Vantage), can we use the same Citrix server to speed up our own connections
to Vantage?

Thanks!
