Greg, you'll need to give them a call or drop an email as it's not publicly marketed yet.

We would like to update a number of our parts with a Planning Time fence

I have used a windows macro program with some success.
If you are updating all selected parts with the same value, just run the
macro on the part and go to the next record and repeat.
I forget the package that I used, but it was a free one.
I did about 300 parts.
It works best to use as many keystrokes as possible versus mouse clicks to
run the macro.

If you do this, set up a BAQ to check your work.
Someone also talked about this a couple weeks ago on the forum. If you want
to search for a software.
Good luck,

Without running SQL up against the DB directly which is a big epicor NO NO
you aren't left with many options, other than service connect and sending
your DB to epicor and having them fix them for you. This would cost a small
fortune and disable your company from using vantage while they have your DB.

Travis:

I've imported data with DTS (data transfer services) which is a part of
SQL with great success. We are running Progress but have a stripped
down version of SQL for another program which is how I have the DTS
program. I've also successfully opened some of the database files in
open office. If you're going to attempt anything like this I'd do it in
a test database first and would also make sure when you're ready to do
it on your live database that you have a current good backup.

We have a SQL server here that we use for another application. Is there
any instructions on performing this in a test environment?

Travis:

I've imported data with DTS (data transfer services) which is a part of
SQL with great success. We are running Progress but have a stripped
down version of SQL for another program which is how I have the DTS
program. I've also successfully opened some of the database files in
open office. If you're going to attempt anything like this I'd do it in
a test database first and would also make sure when you're ready to do
it on your live database that you have a current good backup.

into Vantage without service connect? Here is our scenario:

We would like to update a number of our parts with a Planning Time fence

Id seriously consider a BPM on this one... if you can isolate those part
number in a query based on some criteria you're in business..id be happy
to help you with that one..you can then test it out on a test DB..

I have used BPM on a UD table to mass update fields in my Sales Order table.
I just used UD10 wich we do no use, then put in my criteria for user equal to me on the post update. Then put in the 4gl code.
Once I saved it went through all my sales orders & updated
the ones it needed to. Then I just deleted the BPM. Worked like a charm.

I use a Data Import Tool from a company called Dot Net IT (http://www.dotnetit.co.uk). I'm on Progress, but the tool performs the import using the Vantage Business Objects as opposed to writing directly to the DB.

odbc SQL write would be safe for a field like that.

We do not have Service Connect. Is there a way to import data directly
into Vantage without service connect? Here is our scenario:

We would like to update a number of our parts with a Planning Time fence
number of 60. Is there a way to do a mass update for this field?

With the (correct) open edge odbc driver installed, just push it in with SQL. It doesn't matter if your db is progress or sql server.

My suggestion would have been a DTS package...but that requires SQL...I
know even less about progress..and that isn't saying much!

Subject: [Vantage] Importing Data into Vantage

We do not have Service Connect. Is there a way to import data directly
into Vantage without service connect? Here is our scenario:

We would like to update a number of our parts with a Planning Time fence
number of 60. Is there a way to do a mass update for this field?

Thanks,

AutoHotKey seemed to be the general consensus macro program (cheap: a.k.a free) & pretty steady.

Good luck,

Bruce

The partplant fields he wants to update are harmless (not tied to other fields in other tables... There is much data I would NEVER consider bringing in this way in Vantage)... Epicor NO NO or not, just make a back up before you do it.
SQL update should be fine.

Without running SQL up against the DB directly which is a big epicor NO NO
you aren't left with many options, other than service connect and sending
your DB to epicor and having them fix them for you. This would cost a small
fortune and disable your company from using vantage while they have your DB.
