Importing into vantage

Jim,
Epicor has a custom import utility $2800 that we used to import data
from a UNIX system into
Vantage. You have to do this in a certain order, but all the
instructions are included with the package.
good luck!
Hello group,

my boss wants me to ask this group if it is possible to import specific information into vantage from another system. I'm basically a report writer and don't have a clue as how to accomplish this.We use one system for Sales orders / financials and payroll. we use vantage for job tracking / job costing / raw materials / labor entry/ etc. We would like to import info like sales order no, job no, part ordered, quantity, etc from the sales system directly (if possible) into the appropriate corresponding fields in vantage. The other system runs off of progress 7.0/8.0.
thanks

Vantage is not condusive to Import, though there are PRICEY aftermarket
programs IE: Epicor Custom Programing, and Consultants. I also see that
your boss, (like mine) isnt condusive to single package multi purpose
software. (IE: (heavy mexican accent) We don't need no stinken integrated
system)

From what I understand the answer is Yes and No. With the standard Vantage product, you can import BOM's, but nothing else. You can puchase Vantage's import/export module for a couple thousand dollars which will import many of the Vantage tables down to a certain level. An external free option which is not supported by Epicor is to change fields in Vantage using ODBC along with either Excel or Access. A final option is to purchase the full Progress Language tools and you can write to the database by writing your own programs. This costs quite a few thousand dollars, I understand, but has powerful possibilities for customization.

In other words, for most companies what you are proposing to do is not an option unless you want to dish out some bucks and/or incur some risk.

Epicor has an import export utility where you can import data into
over 30 different tables. price $2500. I used it to load a new company.
I imported data from an HP system. The data obviously needs to be
in the correct format, but it is not difficult to set up. If the data
is not formatted correctly, an error log records the problem.
Let me know if you need more information.
Can't overemphasize the words "correct format". It is easy as can be to fry
all of your Vantage data by throwing a little data into the wrong
pot. -Gary

----- Original M
Prophet21 is the name of our sales/inventory software. We use a purchase
order register list from this system and manually enter all purchase order
and job information from this into vantage. We use the last five numbers of
the purchase order for the job number and add the job type letter to the end
of it and add a P in front of it. It may be possible to write a crystal
report with all the fields and in the correct format and export it or
something instead of trying to use prophets canned report. We are on Vantage
4, progress 9, crystal 7. This import will be used to add new orders/jobs
into Vantage.
Thanks

Anyone have any luck getting any data imported into Vantage
We have a facility with another ERP software package That we want to
dump their info on building parts into Vantage
