Inactive Files

I have verified the call number below and also, Request no. : 8032MPS,
which is to have the functionality added to all master files under job
management. There are currently 9 companies attached to this, so if you
would like this enhancement please add your name to the list.

Hello Group.
While I read the recent thread about an unwanted warehouse, I felt that we
should have an enhancement request started.

I am in Purchasing, so I use the part and vendor files frequently. In the
Master File Maintenance I can make any vendor inactive, and likewise any
Part. It's an easy way to filter out unused items, and can be reversed just
as easily. However, I never see the same option in other areas of the
software.

We're on 5.0 patch 350, so maybe the higher levels already have what I want
to see.

The point is, customers sometimes go away; contacts change frequently;
warehouses loose their usefulness. There are many areas where we have data
transacted in the system. We don't really want to delete them, but we do
want to stop using them.

Does anyone agree?

Let me know. I haven't seen a wish list from Icky Core lately, so I thought
I'd stir the pot a bit. (not meant to be a real dig, just a little snicker
from an inside joke.)

Thanks for you time.

I agree, you could pretty much create a spread sheet listing tables and the
method for handling obsolescent records.

Parts, revisions, work centers, warehouses, customers, part classes,
inspectors, purchasing agents, etc...

Status: database purge and summarize ,mark inactive, delete record, zz-do
not use description, add vbform field to exclude from crystal or
reportbuilder reports.

Then periodically approach epicor and say hey what about these tables now.

Rhonda,

This should be a blanket enhancement request. ALL master tables should have
an option to "Hide" / "De-Activate" records. As in, these babies are no
longer valid and should not be seen on ANY screen as an available record for
ADD functions. They are still valid for qry's, history, etc. You just
won't see them or be able to choose them when adding anything to the system.
I also think the master table update screens should have a "View" function
that would allow you to see either "Active" --OR-- "Inactive" records.

If the user community requests this as an across the board enhancement we
might have a better chance of seeing as opposed to requesting it table by
table.

Someone sent me call # 813494MPS a few months ago when inquired about this.
I believe this is a suggestion to add an inactive flag to all Master Files
and if inactive not have them appear in any selection screen except file
maintenance if the display inactive is checked similar to the way Part
Master is currently.

This has been requested many times by many people in many forums (this list,
user groups, Perspectives). It is much better than it was, but I still
don't understand why Epicor can't allocate a programmer to go through every
table and add an inactive button and go to every drop down list and exclude
inactives (and give the option to view inactives). I am not a programmer,
but this doesn't seem like it would take a great amount of time. This has
been an ongoing frustration for me for the 7+ years on Vantage.

Edward this was changed in version 5.2, at least that's what it says in the
"What's New in 5.20" file I have. It says "Jobs using parts that are
inactive cannot be engineered". I'm on 5.0 so I cannot confirm this.

This should include parts on BOM's when you pull them into a job.
If the
part is on an old BOM, and it is inactive it will still be pulled
into the
new job. A warning similar to un approved releases should be used.

Rhonda,

This should be a blanket enhancement request. ALL master tables
should have
an option to "Hide" / "De-Activate" records. As in, these babies
are no
longer valid and should not be seen on ANY screen as an available
record for
ADD functions. They are still valid for qry's, history, etc. You
just
won't see them or be able to choose them when adding anything to the
system.
I also think the master table update screens should have a "View"
function
that would allow you to see either "Active" --OR-- "Inactive"
records.

If the user community requests this as an across the board
enhancement we
might have a better chance of seeing as opposed to requesting it
table by
table.

Hello Group.
While I read the recent thread about an unwanted warehouse, I felt
that we
should have an enhancement request started.

I am in Purchasing, so I use the part and vendor files frequently.
In the
Master File Maintenance I can make any vendor inactive, and likewise
any
Part. It's an easy way to filter out unused items, and can be
reversed just
as easily. However, I never see the same option in other areas of
the
software.

We're on 5.0 patch 350, so maybe the higher levels already have what
I want
to see.

The point is, customers sometimes go away; contacts change
frequently;
warehouses loose their usefulness. There are many areas where we
have data
transacted in the system. We don't really want to delete them, but
we do
want to stop using them.

Does anyone agree?

Let me know. I haven't seen a wish list from Icky Core lately, so I
thought
I'd stir the pot a bit. (not meant to be a real dig, just a little
snicker
from an inside joke.)

Thanks for you time.
