Installing Bartender

Dear Mitch:

Yes, there are white papers. Most of the information you need can be
downloaded from the Seagull Scientific Bartender website.

Choose 1 server on which to install your license. This license will
keep track of how many different printers all the clients are trying
to print to and won't let them print to more than 5 printers. There
is a good simple explanation for how this works on the Seagull
website under FAQ.

Then you may install a full Bartender Enterprise license on as many
computers as you want -- even 100 computers.

All of those computers will only be able to print to any of 5
printers -- again assuming you purchased the Enterprise license which
is the only one they currently like to sell.

To print, the user simply selects a printer from his networked
printer list. If it is one of the 5 that the license allows, then
the user will get a successfully printed label. If it is a different
printer and the 5-printer license has been exceeded, then the user
will get an error message about exceeding the maximum number of
licensed printers.

Basic - basic question ... Where does one install the license and
clients on a network. Do the clients run from the server? How do
clients send Labels to different printers?

We have a 5 client license with 5 different printers all running on a
network. So how do they relate to each other? Is there a white paper
that explains the install procedure?

I'm sure there is a white paper that hopefully someone can provide. A
high level over view is something like this:

Seagull License server - this is what manages licenses for the printers.
If your license is 5, you can have 5 unique printers using the Bartender
software.

Commander - this is what manages print jobs. A print job from Vantage
will dump a file in a folder to be picked up by Commander. Commander,
based on configuration, will look in specified folder and when it sees a
data file, it processes and prints it to the specified shared printer
(that has a license from the Seagull License Server). Think Crystal
Reports run-time.

Bartender - used to create the templates for Commander to process.
Think Crystal Reports developer.

I set ours up two years ago. I don't recall having a step by step
guide, but I was able to piece enough together to get it working.
Hopefully someone can provide where to get a detailed installation
guide.
