Hi, we’re integrating Kinetic with an EMS system where the Operation Description in the MES system is longer than 30 characters.
Is there a way to increase the length of the Operation Description in Kinetic?
Might be able to use OpMaster.CommentText - x(1000) - but don’t know if it’ll flow through where you need it to…
Nope. It’s set to 30 in the database. They don’t have a way to up that. (Some fields are limited in the UI, but actually bigger in the database. This is not one of those fields)

Thanks, in other words, when the field is a database field it cannot be changed, correct?
No. Do you have a specific uses case in mind? We could recommend a workaround.

We would like to increase the character limit from 30 to 40 characters to accommodate the use of Operation descriptions in the MES system which are over 30 characters. We’re trying to match the Operation Descriptions in both systems (Kinetic and MES).

Are you familiar with Operation Text?
You create the text and then assign that code to the operation. It’s an extra step, but you get a lot more text to work with.
