Issue With Serial Mask Counter Sequence

Hello team!

One of my team members is trying to assign some new serial numbers. However when she goes to do it she gets the following error message. I thought multiple different parts can have the same serial number? Does this mean that the mask is tapped and we need to make a new one?

Serial number counters are held on the part or the mask. If parts share a mask counter, then they cannot use the same serial number. Use a different mask for each part or put the counter on the part.
