Hello,
Does anyone have a documented process for closing jobs when you make-to-stock?
Thank you,
Are you looking for an automated process, or just the steps that need to be taken? Epicor has both.
The actual steps that need to be taken are:
Yes, there can be a whole RAFT of sub-steps to these, and you don’t HAVE to do steps 1 and 2 in that sequence (you can reverse them), but both 1 and 2 have to happen before 3 and 4.
For the automated route, open the Job Complete/Close Parameters program and open the system help.
I will pile on Ernie’s framework with:
We use a dashboard to manually select and close jobs.
Subqueries for:
Is the part on Engineering Hold.
Is the WIP cleared meaning it was reopened.
Was it returned from the customer and need special consideration.
Is there an open DMR. Maybe for scrapping some parts.
Are OSS receipts still pending or waiting Inspection approval.
Are their unapproved labor transactions.
Job closing will automatically pop up notifications and block you for some of these items. Of course these also depend on how you use the system.
Hope this helps.
Ernie’s reply is best so unless you need specific help on one of these not sure there’s much to add.
Job Receipt to Inventory can be done automatically through engineering ‘Final Op’/‘Auto Receive to inventory’.
When i went through this early last year, the most difficult part was the financial transactions, we spent a lot of time on mfg variances because finance was finally getting involved and mfg variances were getting out of hand due to poor clock ins/outs etc. I built a dashboard of jobs ready to be closed, after production completes them, and then a subsection to show what the manufacturing variances would be once posted, they could then review jobs that would have otherwise posted crazy variances and correct hours or materials, and just generally get a sense if costing was in the ballpark or not.
Would be interested in seeing that BAQ, if you’re able to share.
Be careful of what you ask for, you might get it.
Glad to share but this baq is highly customized for our business and the way we use Epicor such as the use of the JobCode field, job number prefix and suffix’s also user define fields added to JobHead table.
But may be a good share to show some idea’s of making Job Closing more manageable. We have about 2000 jobs open at any one time and close 100 to 200 every month.
Thanks for Sharing Patrick just the screenshot was useful to me, seeing the column Days Stalled not a measure we use here but would be a super useful one. I’m going to steel it and see if I can add it to our super simple open jobs dashboard.
