Job material changes

Miguel:

This sounds like something we should look at. As a cable house, sometimes the final product follows very closely the first article.

Thanks

Greg

Epicor MRP gurus:

I am looking for the best way or ways to streamline a process.

We have 42 new jobs.  2 are first article builds and then 20 jobs each of an assembly. The timeline is tight, so the material for the 40 jobs is already on order. As engineering is building the first articles material part numbers and quantities are changing.

This forces planning to clear each job and get details and schedule again to get the changes to purchasing. Process takes almost two hours.

What other shortcuts are built into Epicor or are there other Updateable BAQ ways to make this happen in a fraction of the time.

Thanks for any suggestions

Greg Payne

I’m confused why your BOM would be changing… could you elaborate on that a little more?

We buy to unfirm jobs.

I am not sure how your Jobs are being driven….true Order or Forecast.

Our purchasing group used to wait until all jobs were firm, but if we have an order then for sure we are going to build it.  So if our FA are not stable yet, then we leave the subsequent jobs as unfirm.  So every time the unfirm job will pull the latest BOM.  We run Regen every day as well though.  We also use infinite scheduling, so we can move dates in and out.

If you need a quick workaround, then create on job will all the material you need…add as you go.  Then delete the job and release the real jobs.

Sound like a procedural problem with the handover between Engineering and Production.

You could DMT the Job Materials since the jobs are unfirm.

But, now sure how you could automate the rescheduling process.

We find errors and omissions as we are building the first articles, so Engineering is getting new parts lists and prints from the customer as they work thru the process.

Today we had 2 part substitutions, a quantity change and a new part added to the bill of material for the 2 assemblies.

Assuming these are the only changes, then the 42 jobs need the new parts list, so purchasing can get them on order, so currently the planner will delete parts and get details on each job.

I had developed a process to remove material, get new material and schedule the job automatically in our former system and need to do the same for Epicor.

I am hoping that we have overlooked a function of the job scheduling board or planner workbench that can do mass job changes or others have built solutions to these issues.

Greg
