Hi,
Our biggest problem, is there are steps sometimes that we want to put on a
customer time line that we don't have on our jobs. (such as, engineering
create print, receive approval from customer on print, or parts) Or that
customers want a timeline on projects that include several jobs. I believe
this is available in 5.0 in projects. (it is listed, but I haven't tested
it). This makes it easier for us to use Vantage instead of MS Project.
Thanks,

We use JobEntry/Schedule/Visual Job Scheduling Board, print the window using
PrintNow, and send it to the customer. If you start setting it up in Vantage
instead of buying MS Project anyone one in Vantage can see/use/take
advantage of this data. Don't waste your money on MS Project for this.

Some of our customers would like to see some sort of "time-line" graph to
show the status of jobs. Is there a way that Vantage can print a
"time-line"? Visual Scheduling module? We are not using the Visual
Scheduling module at all right now. So, would it require quite a bit of
data entry in the Visual Scheduling module to be able to print a time of
status graph? Shopvision perhaps? We were thinking of investing in
Microsoft Project 2000. But, if Vantage is able to do this already it would
save us money.
Any suggestions?

We do this all the time internally. We have Microsoft Project 2000 but
we don't use it. To print a Vantage visual schedule can be as simple as
pressing F6, just as you do with most of the screens in Vantage. You
can print that on a color or black and white printer. It prints in two
pages that you would tape together. One of our people have pulled the
screen into another standard software program so it will print as one
page.
If you want to include engineering tasks on a particular project for a
customer, just enter "Engineering", etc., as a work center. Some
companies I have talked to already schedule their engineering tasks in
Vantage. We are also planning to do that in the future.
If you schedule your jobs now then there is no additional effort
required. You'd be surprised how visual scheduling can help your people
understand how Vantage scheduling works. We do most scheduling changes
by the drag and drop method on the visual scheduling screens. It is a great
tool to help out level shop loading/capacity problems.
Hope this helps,
Steve
