We use kanban types in our facility and have 2 warehouses, one that parts are purchased into and supplied to the other warehouse that sells them. We want to have the kanban type set to purchase with min/max values to signal us to reorder in the 1st warehouse (supply) and the kanban type set to manual replenishment in the selling warehouse. The problem is not all parts we want to have a min/max on. Some parts we want to be demand only driven and have a min/max of 0. This would allow a signal to transfer parts between warehouses in the event of demand. Problem is when we try to do this we get an error. “Minimum Qty is required when replenishment is enabled.” Why is this not allowed or are we doing something incorrect?
Maybe someone can explain how each replenishment type trigger works and what they are typically used for (production, purchase, stock, auto, manual)?
You can have a kanban replen type set up at the site and at the bin/warehouse level.
so you could set up the Bin that is the Point of use as the replen kanban with the supply bin being the primary bin in the main warehouse, then use demand to drive purchasing at the main warehouse.
I understand the functionality to the level that you have explained, however I’m looking for what each type effects in the system. For example, we use type manual to replenish our selling bins. A min of at least 1 must be used for this type. If we began using type stock instead (doesn’t have the same minimum requirement), what would be affected? What would have to change about the trigger (other than our custom replenishment report)?
Following~ We are using ‘Auto’ as replenishment type and I cannot find a way to have the replenishment quantity to be 1. I tried setting min to be 0 but like you mentioned, it has to start from 1.
What we ended up doing is blanking out the replenishment type for demand only items, so that we only get a transfer signal when there is sales demand. Setting it at a max of 1 and min something less than 1 may not be possible. Hopefully, someone else has this specific experience and can better answer your question.
Even attempting to set max of 3 and min of 3 will not work (the number does not matter). It is impossible to have an auto replenishment quantity of 1 at all.
