Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if Kinetic for Linux container is available for on-premise, or is it only available on Kinetic Cloud?

They have said it will only be for cloud. ![]()

And this is unfortunate. If I wanted to sell more SaaS, I would make the experience as similar as possible from SaaS to on-prem. As the experience diverges, it creates more mental friction to adopt SaaS. If on-prem users have a better understanding of the cloud workflow, they would be more comfortable switching - and it would be easier for Epicor to onboard them.
This was the same issue with Epicor Express users. The product was different enough, it was difficult to upgrade them to Public Cloud. (@Evan_Purdy)
Also, Epicor’s support costs will rise in order to support two different ways of working with their product.
I think Microsoft saw this and that’s why they introduced Azure Local. Keep your customers in the family by making it easier to move workloads where it makes the most sense. It’s also going to help them out with international businesses as the current political climate is trending toward keeping everything domestic.
Also, by making them different, you reduce the product offering. I could imagine selling more licenses through a new product called, “Kinetic In Your Cloud” Sell it like on-prem, provide the Portal and Containers, get paid for doing upgrades, but don’t take the costs/risks of cloud. ![]()
The topic had been brought up earlier as they missed some details when implementing platform-specific code. It was popping compiler warnings for users and was a funny way to discover their intentions a little early. Still, others knew well prior to this incident.
Bit of a dumpster fire topic, since this isn’t the only thing they’ve kept cloud-only just for Epicor’s benefit. It’s great for Epicor, not the customers.
Can both be true? ![]()
Maybe once they actually roll out the Linux containers they’ll be able to release it for on-prem too.
I’m not sure how tied into the Portal the containers are but publishing them in a container registry is typical for other companies who distribute containers.
