Label Printer for Inventory Receipts - v6.1

Having previewed Rich J.'s response I would add the following....

We have several Zebra Z4M label printers (4X6 Direct Thermal labels) and they have been rock solid. Yes we had some initial driver issues years ago with the first one....ended up the printer rev level indicated in the driver must NOT match the one shown on the printer. Zebra support, after we found the right person, was able to give us the rev level number to use that made everything work OK. Later driver installs are far more automatic and resolved this. The Z4M would handle any label with 4" in one of the dimensions. The Intermec printers I have used were fine too....just a lot more expensive.

We treat the printers the same as a laser printer for purposes of printing labels from Report Builder or Crystal. No special programming required. For bar codes the standard Dataworks 39 font that comes with Vantage is just fine. Put a * at the start and end of the field. Any Vantage based Crystal report would already have a BCxxxxx version of field names to be printed in barcode format that have the *s embedded already. Unfortunately we do not print inventory tags so I can't be specific on that process. If I recall correctly Aaron Hoyt has been using a BAM on some sort of receipts to trigger printing labels that sounded really slick.

Subject: [Vantage] Label Printer for Inventory Receipts - v6.1

Hi,

We are looking to purchase a label printer for purchase receipts. I was
wondering if anybody could offer advice on this one. The labels will be
of standard size. Has anybody got any advice on the actual printing
tags process, is it good or bad?

TIA
