Label Printing

Thanks to everyone who offered help.

There were 2 problems I was having.

1 The default form was stuck at Envelope #9

2 Random feed problems. Stopping in the middle of a label.

Call #1 to Zebra. Not hardware talk to software.
Software said to load the latest universal driver.
Downloaded driver and installed.

Problem with default form fixed.
feed problem still there.
New problem - can't sense the gap between labels.

Call #2 to Zebra - Software
Went through all settings - problem not software talk to hardware.
Hardware said to reload firmware (is that soft, hard or somewhere
in-between)

Gap sense problem fixed.
Still have feed problem.

Call #3 to Zebra - Hardware

Someone new - said to change bios setting on
parallel port to dumbest/slowest setting.
My Dell had EPP, ECP, PS/2 and AT settings
Set it to AT.

Feed problem solved. !!!!

There has to be an easier way.

Help.

I've installed a new Zebra printer to print Receiving and shipping labels.
Everything works great with one exception: The default form is "Envelope
#9"

I have gone to every tab and under every button in the printer properties
dialog.
Everything is set to "Label 4.00 x 2.00".

In every program except Vantage the printer defaults to "Label 4.00 x 2.00".
When I edit my form in Crystal 8.5 every default comes up "Label 4.00 x
2.00".

But when I try to print in Vantage....yup, back to "Envelope #9"

Called Vantage support. They only support dot matrix and laser.
"The problem must be with the driver"

Any suggestions. Some obscure setting in Crystal I haven't found?

Thanks

What model Zebra? I had a number of driver issues with our Z4M when it was first installed (but not default form), and ONLY for Vantage/Report Builder (Excel and Word worked OK). My biggest issue was getting it to obey the number of copies. What I found eventually by hitting the right tech support person at Zebra was that the rev level programmed into the printer had to be completely different from what the printer was reporting. In other words, in order for the driver to work I had to lie to the printer and tell it a different rev level. Since then everything worked great. You might need to call Zebra and specifically ask about this rev level issue.

Sorry, I guess my Z4M rev level won't help. But Zebra definitely has made their drivers sensitive to the rev level entered in the printer configuration (if the TLP 2844 works that way too) and just changing that made a huge difference in how it behaved with Vantage.

Robert,

I had similar problems with Zebra printers before. It is possible that you
have more than Zebra driver installed. You need to manually uninstall every
Zebra driver that exists on your pc. Zebra has instructions how to do that.
After you make sure that there are no more Zebra drivers, DLL's or other
files left on the pc, reinstall the correct driver.

For everyone using Zebra Printers, an unnamed Support tech (called
himself secret squirrel) recommended that the driver package from
'www.seagullscientific.com' was the best driver package for Zebra
Printers. I've used this package for about 10 months with very few
issues. Its is much more robust than the stock Zebra Drivers.
