Labor Rates/Standards

We leave the operation rates blank and fill in all the employee rates with
one of our average rates based on function of the employee. If I remember
right, the operation will override the employee rate, and we wanted the
employee rate to be used, which required the operation rate to be blank.
I'm not sure what would happen if both the employee rate and the operation
rate were at zero. The burden rates come in from the workcenter information.
You should probably get the hierarchy information from Epicor to be sure I
am remembering right.

Two part question on procedure.
We are on 5.0, using data collection and Payroll. First in Payroll, under
the employee information there is a section for "active shop employee" and a
labor rate associate. Part one, should that rate reflect the rate of pay
for the individual, or more like an average rate that we bill out for the
labor that employee performs? If the question seems unclear, please ask me
to expand on it.
Part two... Well, in further research, part two is not a big issue at this
moment, so we will leave it at part one. :)
Any input or advice would be appreciated.

I have noticed a lot of discussion about going to 5.1 from 5.0 and then to
5.2. Does anyone have a reason that you cannot upgrade from 5.0 directly to
5.2?

I just answered my own question. For anyone else that is interested here is
a snippet from the upgrade guide:

Welcome to the Vantage Version 5.10 to 5.20 Upgrade Guide! This guide tells
you everything

you need to know about upgrading your current Vantage 5.10 software to the
latest Vantage

release, version 5.20. This upgrade guide does not, however, contain
detailed information

regarding the operation of Vantage. All the information you will need to
effectively use Vantage

once it has been installed is contained in Vantage's on-line help system.

Note: You cannot upgrade directly from Vantage 5.00 (or any other previous
version) to Vantage

5.20. If you currently use a 5.00 or lower database, you must first upgrade
to Vantage 5.10, and

then use this installation guide to upgrade to Vantage 5.20.

We chose not to use actual rates in that spot because any rocket scientist
with a calculator can figure out an employee's labor rate from information
in job tracker or production detail, etc. We use average labor rates based
on employee's function.

Ditto. This is the Labor figure used for inventory costing purposes - so we
prefer the loaded rate rather than the actual $/hour.

Ok, thank you very much for the advice there. Now the next part of the
question is, how necessary is this information being added? Does costing
look at the workcenter info first? Does it default to some other number if
this information is missing?
Forgive me, but around here there is often the question asked..."Can we
avoid entering that data? What are the ramifications of skipping it?" I am
a data freak (if the field is there I want to fill it in), but I seem to be
the only one in the company.
Thanks for any additional information you can offer.
