Labor Records... Who done it?

Alternative solution: point a camera [real or dummy] at the MES terminal/s as a deterrent.
Of course this depends on your setup, and assumes that the perpetrator is another shop-user and not an office user.

Unfortunately, no.

Think about it. Where are they clocking in? In MES, or Labor
Collection? (whatever it was in the older versions).

MES does not require you to log in and then clock in. So if I knew Joe
Blow's number, all I have to do is type in his number and now he is
clocked in.

If you made people log in with one ID and then clock in with another,
then you may be able to get what you are looking for. But if I was tight
with Joe Blow, then I would know both numbers and passwords.

The only way to tighten up login in security is to make everyone a user
and link their employee ID to their user ID. This forces a password
entry for the user. Of course if they give each other their passwords,
then discipline is the only answer.

Yes, you can setup the change log with Business Activity Manager (BAM). It automatically stores the Vantage user that made the change (dcduserid) HOWEVER, this information is buried in the log text and you'll need to know what you're looking and do some text functions to dig it out. And you have to filter out the normal MES changes when they log in and log out. I would describe the change log functionality as barely adequate. It's in there but not reporting friendly at all.

It took a lot of work but we have fairly extensive use of the change log for labor entry. We monitor changes for all hourly associates daily, have supervisors print out a record of the changes, and both the associate and supervisor have to sign. This was all in lieu of paper time card records in an effort to eliminate the parallel process of Vantage and paper time cards.

Also as a last note of caution, limit the tables and fields that you want to monitor for changes to only those that are absolutely critical as the change log can grow out of hand if you let it and expand your db size faster than you might think.

Chris Clunn

You could always copy the session's user ID to the record each time they log in. That would give you the vantage user. If you want the windows user you can copy SystemInformation.UserName to the record also. We use this in a couple places just for some double checks outside of audit logs.

If you have a high volume of labor activity reporting, be aware that enabling change logging of these records is going to likely result in a noticeable application performance hit (as would chang log tracking materials issues to jobs in some environoments, etc.,).

Keep you eyes open and assess if it is worth it (and not better addressed by managment by walking around.)

We are on version 8 and it will not allow you to clock someone else in. What

I'm not sure what you mean here. Without customization, you have unlimited access to create/delete/change any open labor records using full version Labor Entry. The only restriction I know of is with the Office MES program in version 8+ will only let the signed in user clock in/out.
