Large Backup/B1 file

Just to follow this up, it's best to enter into the PROENV command prompt
before running this, as well as having the DB stopped.

then type prompt to get to a standard prompt like: e:\epicor\oe101b_wrk>

then browse to your DB location via DOS CD commands

then run the command proutil mfgsys -C truncate bi

where mfgsys is the file name of your DB, assuming you never changed it it
will be mfgsys, no file extentions are needed.

You can work this into a batch file if you want to, but be sure you are
aware these are basically transaction logs you are truncating.

I'm not sure what happened, but our backup file recently went from about 1.2gb to 2.1gb. When I look, it appears the .b1 file has grown from a ~100mb to 900mb.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Is this done by the truncate bi command I have floating around somewhere?

Yep, truncate it.

\\server\epicor\mfgsys803\db\proutil mfgsys -C truncate bi

I'm not sure what happened, but our backup file recently went from about
1.2gb to 2.1gb. When I look, it appears the .b1 file has grown from a
~100mb to 900mb.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Is this done by the truncate bi
command I have floating around somewhere?

Yes, you will need to stop the DB then run proenv. When you get the
command window, type "prompt" and "enter" then change directories to
the physical location of your database. Once there the command to
manually truncate the b1 file is:

proutil mfgsys -C truncate bi

As a precaution, of course, make sure you have run a backup before you
attempt the truncation.

Good luck,

Michael
