Laser Printer Advise

[Jerry M Nettik] Setup a second print queue on the network utilizing the
same printer - call it something like: 'Checks'. Give your clerk full
control over both queues. When she is ready to print checks, she would
'Pause' the regular queue - print jobs still go to the queue (they get
queued..., hum what a concept) but do not print. The clerk then loads the
checks, and she now prints the checks to the 'Checks Queue'. When she is
done, she removes the checks from the printer, and 'Resumes' the regular
queue, and all the stored print jobs now print. This is how network print
queues were meant to be utilized.

The HP 2100 works great, and we print laser checks on an HP1100 (much slower
and cheaper), but you still have to tell it to use the Series II driver.

Hey gang....
I'm asking my boss for a brand-spanking-new laser printer!! If it is
approved, I would like to buy one that will work with the big "V" and
specifically to print vendor checks.
A) Is this possible? Do people actually print vantage checks without
disaster or chronic aggravation syndrome?
B) I'm thinking of an HP 4050se "Workgroup Printer" with "True 1200 dpi
at full speed" and "Prints 17 ppm". Anyone using one on their network?

Any input is truly appreciated!!!!

We are currently using a 4000 series we bought about 8 months ago. We also
bought an additional 500 sheet paper tray. We did this so we can have tray
#2 strictly for payroll and AP and then tray 3 is standard white paper. I
just set up the same printer with different names on the workstations that
needed it. I would call the printer payroll/AP only pointing to tray 2 and
the other would be called regular (whatever) pointing to tray #3

Rick,

We do print our payroll checks on HP 5000. We have never had a problem - we have been using it since implementing Vantage a year ago. We also use the HP 2100 with Vantage and printed checks on this also (only for a month) with no problem then we bought another 5000
for A/P (just for report purpose only - larger format)

Dina.

We use an HP LaserJet 5SiNX and use it to print A/P checks. The only
problem we have is that this is the main network printer and my clerk needs
to go around and tell everyone who prints to that printer to not print
before she adds the check stock so that she can print checks. It causes a
lot of problems if someone forgets before she prints and they print on the
check stock. Because this fouls up the check order (check stock is
prenumbered and no longer will agree to the check register report), she must
delete the entire check run and reselect invoices to be paid (there may be a
way to prevent this from happening, but it seems to work for us until we set
her up with her own LaserJet). I would suggest that you use a small
LaserJet exclusively for printing checks, unless there is another way to
prevent other users from printing once the check stock has been added to the
printer.

with the 4000 series i have 2 trays that are assigned seperatly as differnet
printers. The people who use tray 2 for payroll for example are the only
ones that would be networked to that specific tray in the printer

Does your printer have a manual feed tray? If you put the checks in
the manual feed tray and designate the printer to take the paper from
there you may eliminate problems with people printing on your checks.
That's what we do and I have nver had any problems.
