I'm still on 5.2. Below are our internal instructions that we use here for
setting up client side odbc on 5.2. I'm not sure if they would be close
enough for 6.1. You should probably call tech support to get the 6.1
instructions.
Once you get ODBC configured, just 'link' to the odbc connection from
access. Then, choose the tables you want to access. Check off the 'save
password' box so you won't have to enter the password every time you access
this db.
Vantage 5.2 ODBC Client Install Instructions
NOTE: The Vantage and Progress client's MUST be installed before ODBC can be
installed.
1.) Go to the ODBC Administrator in the Control Panel.
a. On window NT: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Data Sources
(ODBC)
b. On windows 2000: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)
2.) Click the 'User DSN' tab, and click 'Add'
3.) Click 'Merant 3.60 32-Bit Progress SQL92 v9.1D' and click 'Finish'
4.) The configuration screen will open. Enter the following, EXACTLY as
they appear below:
In the 'General' Tab
Data Source Name: epic52
Description: Vantage by Epicor
Host Name: nm_vantage
Port Number: 5250
Database Name: vantage
User ID: sysprogress
In the 'Advanced' Tab
Default Isolation Level: READ UNCOMMITTED
Fetch Array Size: 50

6.) Click 'Test Connect'
7.) When the Logon screen opens it will ask you for a password. Enter
sysprogress as the password and click 'Ok'.
8.) The 'Connection Established' screen should appear. Click 'Ok' and
then close the datasource administrator.
