We are on Kinetic 2022.2.9 and would like to turn on the Kinetic UI on menu options and point users to the browser for Kinetic.
I have searched and read the speed advantage that we should gain. And the fact that Introducing new users to the web client is so much nicer.
Any gains will help my case to management as we look for more resources from our company to turn this on.
Any big payouts that I can tout going to the web client? Or big gains in versions past 2022.2.9?? As an upgrade will come next after going to the Kinetic web for our UI. Many thanks

No need to install a client at all on any machine where the user will be on browser only.
-
Tracing issues / errors is way easier in the browser

Function calls from UI make customizing forms much easier to maintain
Also, 2023.1+ has some improved UI layouts. I haven’t used several on older versions, but order entry is way better in 2023.1
Stability and bug fixes. I would consider upgrading first and then go to browser.
IMO page loading time is faster in the browser compared to the smart client and wayy faster than the classic forms.
Deep linking to apps and specific records within the app is very nice. Simply provide the link to someone in a chat or email. For example, https://server/Production/Apps/ERP/Home/#/view/OMMT3001/Erp.UI.SalesOrderEntry?channelid=b21bf89a-861b-4767-914c-efca1053d031&layerVersion=0&baseAppVersion=0&company=200&site=MfgSys&pageId=OrderLineDetailPage&pageChanged=true&KeyFields.OrderNum=12082
This would take me to order entry and load up order 12082
Thank you all for the insight
Basic functionality that you get with any webpage, for example:
Ctrl-Click to open in new tab
Ctrl-Scroll wheel to zoom in/out (the font is too small!)
We have found that switching to Kinetic in the browser is fantastic for shop floor data collection and transactions. By switching to kinetic in the browser, we can deploy Chrome books rather than work stations with clients. Now a handful of MES client licenses can be used by dozens of employees with no wait time, by issuing Chrome books at every work station. Users with a Chrome book can start a browser, log in to MES, perform their data entry, log out of MES, and close the browser.
Employees are no longer walking across the shop or standing in line to register transactions at specific stations.
100% on the shop floor deal. Got a bunch of Android tablets with browsers and Bluetooth scanners, one at each of our workcenters. Works great as long as the wireless is working.
Overall the browser’s worked out pretty well. We still have some wonkiness with a few things not yet migrated…using client via Citrix Workspace instead of installing them all over the place…and Edge Agent is a necessary evil.
In my (not usually very) humble opinion, this is far and away the number one reason tablets have a problem on the shop floor. A typical shop environment is a Pandora’s Box of high-revving motors and large metallic objects that suck the life out of virtually any radio frequency device.
If it works for you, AWESOME!
I guess ours is typical - printing presses.
Only issue we’ve had was with the wireless. We mounted the tablets on desks/tables far enough away so as not to have them damaged.
We have not been as lucky with handhelds. Got the protective boots, got the trigger handles…and we’ve had people manage to drive over them with forklifts.
