Britt,
It sounds like you could use Crystal Reports and ODBC to get the
information to the desktop. I am not positive but I think that the
ODBC works independently so you could run a report on a machine that
doesn't even have Progress or Vantage. You would need to create
Crystal reports for the information that you want the users to lookup
and you could use parameter fields to select specific data for the
report. You will also need ODBC for every workstation that needs to
print these reports but this will be much cheaper than custom
programming or additional Vantage user licenses.

We have several "ocasional" users who need to lookup a part bin
location, customer info, invoice, etc. In Vantage 3, they could go to
the Data Collection devices and do the quick lookups, but that won't
work in Vantage 4. The problem is that we cannot justify the 5-6

logins (@$3500 ea) required for to allow them to do it from their
cubicals. We tried putting Vantage on their computers, with
instructions to get out when they are finished, but that is both
impractical (it takes too long), and un-workable (they forget, or
won't
get out).
What we need is the ability to "log out" of Vantage, without unloading
the prowin32 & all the supporting dll's.... this should save quite a
bit
of time getting back into Vantage. I know they have the routines
already written, since this is what happens if you get a "record in
use
by..." message and click anything... it will close your Vantage
session,
and present you with a login box.
Does anyone out there already have cu$tom programming done for this?
Would anyone out there be interested in sharing the costs with us?
