Looking for Distributors on E9

John,

Thanks for the information. I take it you have already done these customization's. How do you handle the different costs, standard cost vs. supplier cost vs. last cost for the item? Do you just use a standard cost list or do you look at each suppliers cost? Thanks,

We would probably fall into the distributor category.

We do a some value add operations and we work with vendors who do value
add steps for us but we are much closer to a distributor than a
manufacturer.

What kind of questions do you have?

We have a medical device company that buys and sells only, all manufacturing is outsourced. Are there specific requirements or needs you are running into that you can't get to work in Epicor 9?

Mark,

We work off cost plus, however, we cannot see cost or get cost to easily show up in Quote Entry or Order Entry. Also, current availability is critical to us, we can build BAQ's to show availability in our warehouses, but is it possible to show current inventory levels in the Order Entry and Quote Entry screens? Lastly, all of our stocking levels are based off of current lead times for parts. Is it possible to see specific lead times at Quote entry and Order entry?

Really, all these questions come down to how much customization did you have to do for Quote and Order entry and are you happy with those screens now? Any advice or ideas would be a huge help. Thanks,

John

The order entry screen already shows current QOH - Line tab, top right corner. (In Epicor 9.05)

If you want to see part costs in order entry with no customization, right-click on a part#, open-with part tracker from the order entry screen. Switching to a new part# in order entry will switch part tracker automatically to that part# (leave part tracker open at the costs tab or plant tab for the lead times). But you're probably better off customizing the screens.

Thanks,

Brian.

Brian,

It shows the QOH at the plant level, not at the warehouse level. It seems that Order Entry and Quote Entry need heavy modifications in order for them to become useful for distributors and resellers.

So let me change the question, are there packages out there for distributors and resellers? We have looked at Alternative Tech's Fast Order Entry screens, but they do not include any cost, markup, or margin amounts.

Any advice from any distributors is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Distribution is a big topic but just focusing on the information you asked about getting these items onto the quote and order entry screen isn't too complicated. The part tracker is a good suggestion but sometimes having the information right on the same screen is more important. Since these screens already have the part number on them getting the rest of the information can be done via a BPM and some UD fields. The BPM can populate some UD fields with the additional part information and then a simple customization will expose the UD fields. If the part number is changed on the line by the user the BPM will re-fire and update the information to reflect the current part number.

We're in pretty much the same boat as you. If (like us) your main concern
is viewing cost and having the QOH display in a more useful manner, your
best bet is probably going to be customizing the screen.
It's a pretty basic spec as far as customizations go. If you have someone
with basic programming skills, I wouldn't expect it to take more than a day
or two (assuming they aren't already familiar with Epicor). All you really
need to do is create a couple BAQs, and have the screen run them and stick
the results in a grid.
