Making a customer or shipto location inactive

They do (on the main customer tab, but not on the shipto tab), I'll check into it in the morning.

is there a way to mark or make a customer, or a shipto code inactive?

I know you cant delete them(if there is any activity), but what happens if a customer closes a branch location, & we want to mark that branch as inactive (so we dont in advertantly enter a quote or sales order for that branch).

any ideas or suggestions?

In 8.03 you can make a customer nocontact. I have a BPM that prevents a sales order from being saved if the sold to customer is no contact. As far as shipto locations, I had to create a customization that uses a UD checkbox to mark the shipto as inactive. Then I created a BPM that prevents a sales order from being saved if the UD checkbox on the shipto is checked.
