Material Management/Shipping

hey greg,

did you ever found a way to get LPn for a specific customer in Epicor?

OOOOOH, that sounds promising. I really do need to auto generate this sequential (non repeatable) LPN rather than type it in though I would think. Have to think a little deeper about this I see.

We have a requirement to be able to batch together products into boxes and pallets in such a way that the operator only has to scan a single barcode rather than several individual items. I believe some third party vendors offer this facility and refer to it as an "LPN" (Licence Plate Number). So in practice you may have one pallet containing 50 items, those 50 items are added into a single "LPN" and when the pallet is despatched the operator only has one barcode to scan.
Has anyone achieved this in E9 and if so how did you do it ?
Thanks in advance

I suggest you look at WMS - Warehouse Management Systems. These will us LPNs
and allow you to Pick and Pack. You will need to create an interface between
the WMS system and Epicor. We used Service Connect which picked up xml files
from the WMS and created xml files for the WMS but you could just as easily
communicate by creating csv files - depending on the WMS system and it's
capabilities.

Looks like we also just received this as a requirement for one of our customers. I'm on 9.05.607 and have the AMM, Advanced Production, DMT, and Service Connect. Unfortunately we're just getting started and are only partially implemented at this point.

When data was migrated from a legacy system that required a customer record for every ship to, we ended up with a monstrous customer database. It would be nice to trim this down.

Does anyone have a query / report written to find customers with no activity?

If this is only for one customer, we have a cheat - I mean, shortcut -
we use for one of our customer's shipping requirements. We use the Bill
of Lading number as the master pack number, and a custom BOL report
style that picks up details from the linked packing slips. It can't be
scanned into Epicor in any useful way, but our requirement is just an
outgoing shipping label.

There is a pick and pack facility alongside the WMS section but as I said
before no LPN handling so you can't identify individual pallets. However you
can pick items using the Pack Out function and assign them to a Master Pack
ID which could be your pallet. That can be shipped to a customer along with
other Master Pack Ids. It depends on what you are trying to do. Do you want
this facility just to pick and pack orders or are you looking to use LPNs to
identify stock in racking as well?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
The LPN number requirement from our customer requires a 14 digit field, the first 6 of which identify the supplier and the last 8 are to be an incremental, non-repeatable pallet number. We have to then create a .csv file that's essentially an ASN showing all the items related to each LPN or pallet ID number. That .csv gets uploaded into their system as an ASN.

A full truck shipment might have 20+ pallets, each with a LPN and a number if items associated with each individual pallet/LPN.

Are you saying I can use the pack out funtionality to create master pack ID's that will be my LPN's?

I haven't tried this but you could create a legal number for Master Pack
Shipment which matches your customer numbering requirement and you could
then produce a Pallet label to their specification - probably linking it to
the Master Pack Shipment - I couldn't tell you how but someone in this group
would probably be able to - or just type the number directly into a Label
format in BarTender - maybe Brian who answered your email has a way of doing
this direct link. Each Master Pack could then be shipped to your customer as
part of a delivery. And then produce a csv file based on the Master Pack
Shipments - or if you have EDI and they can accept EDI documents you could
send the file that way.

A bit of a broad answer at the moment but hope it gives a pointer to what
could be done.

The LPN number requirement from our customer requires a 14 digit field, the
first 6 of which identify the supplier and the last 8 are to be an
incremental, non-repeatable pallet number. We have to then create a .csv
file that's essentially an ASN showing all the items related to each LPN or
pallet ID number. That .csv gets uploaded into their system as an ASN.

A full truck shipment might have 20+ pallets, each with a LPN and a number
if items associated with each individual pallet/LPN.

Are you saying I can use the pack out funtionality to create master pack
ID's that will be my LPN's?

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
OOOOOH, that sounds promising. I really do need to auto generate this sequential (non repeatable) LPN rather than type it in though I would think. Have to think a little deeper about this I see.
