Material management

If you create a UI customization on part entry there is a Boolean field available that isn’t on the form by default called override, bind this to a checkbox.  Once you check this it will allow you to change your UOM all day long.  Once you save, it will automatically uncheck itself and the conversion will revert to read only once again.

It does take some time and very importantly has to be done when the part is initially made. Once the has been used flag is set you can’t easily change the UOM factors. There is no other way to use material in multiple units and have the system do all of the behind the scenes conversions.

Hi Greg,

Ok, I did have set up the UOM Class as "Other" with LB as base UOM and then created a new UOM conversion with inches.

Conversion for 1IN = x 1LB would be just for one type of material.

What if we would have hundreds of materials which vary depending on kind of material we order and the density of material?  Create a conversion for each one??

That would take some time...

Thanks!

Hi,

Is there a way to add a material in Epicor10 using UOM as length for our inventory and when purchasing through PO to use UOM as weight?

For example in the past, before Epicor10, the person that was responsible bought the materials in pounds and then when receiving he measured and entered those in inches for our inventory.

Can this be done in Epicor10, or does it need to be the same UOM for both times when buying and receiving?

The short answer is yes. You can set up purchasing UOMs and inventory UOMs with the pertinent conversions. We have it set up that way with some of our parts.
Could you tell me how? or give me a hint?

Thanks

If you don’t already have one, make a UOM class with IN and LB in it. If you are going to have various LB to IN conversions then check part specific and the conversion will be done in the part entry screen uom tab.  Be sure you are happy with the uom class before you put it into your live system They can never be deleted.

Set the conversion so 1 IN = x LB.

In the vendor price list use the supplier UOM of LB. When you make a PO you should be able to enter your quantity on IN and it will convert to their quantity of LB.

We always order and receive in the uom of the vendor, so I not sure about the receiving in a different uom, but it looks like you can use either quantity to receive.

HTH

Greg

You can set up Inventory Unit of measure, which is the default, and then set up Purchasing unit of measure (with a conversion) so that they can buy in units like sticks, and have brought in as feet. We've got it set up that way for sticks of beam and sheets of steel.
I'll write a post tomorrow, I have to click around to remember where.
Thank you very much!
Its on the Part Maintenance.  Primary UOM and there are 3 options.
