Mcafee Question

One other suggestion. If you have a copy of Norton's handy, you can
install that. They don't like to both be installed on the same computer
and it should (may) prompt you for your OK to remove McAfee's, sin so
doing it may remove offending registry entries.

Does anyone know if Mcafee stopped providing the Dat updates for free?
The last time I tried to run one I got the message 'No qualifying product
found'.
Mcafee's support was no help...but for $25 per PC they would help.

Are you running the DAT update from the VirusScan console on the
workstations or some other way? They say you can only get DATs for a year
but there is no account required to download them. It might also matter if
you have corporate edition or personal edition.

Don't know if this is connected or not, but over the last few weeks I've
been doing the 4.1.40 scan engine update on my machines. About 10 of them
(out of 80) gave me the "no qualifying product found" message. I
uninstalled/reinstalled the program and all was fine.

The "no qualifying product found" message means that you don't have the
latest program update installed. For the Superdat file to work properly you
have to be at the latest program revision level. The full Superdat file
will also update the scan engine but not the program revision level.
Currently VirusScan is at version 4.5.0.534. Scan engine is at 4.1.40 and
the latest virus definition is at 4.0.4160

I would agree with that but the other 70 machines had the same version and I
reinstalled the product from the same installer on the same server and was
then able to apply the updates. On the problem machines the console would
also say that the updates were being done as scheduled, however on boot it
would give the message that the virus definitions were more than 10 months
old... There was definitely something wrong with the original install on
those 10.

I've seen this one just this past week...remove and reload the McAfee,
then apply the .dat file. That should do it.

I too have had this problem and Mike is right in suggestion to
reinstall. However, there have been a couple of times I have had to go
into the registry and remove entries to clear the error.

Thanks everyone. The reinstall did not work, I will try
to remove the registry entries. I have a mixture of retail
and OEM installed product (dell) I will have to break down
and pay the fee$$ I suppose.
