MES licensing Blank Title 119714

We have all our MES workstations logging in as the same user. If the workstation is logged in, and there is an active connection, then they are consuming one license seat.

We have our timeout on the plant floor user set to 15 minutes. So after 15 minutes of inactivity at the MES terminal, that license appears to be released back to the pool.

Thanks,
John Kreger

Does anyone know how the Epicor 9 MES licensing really works?

Does it occupy 1 slot per names user per piece of hardware?

Or is it w/ a generic user (not named user) and is concurrent based?

Contact our CAM because this varies per company?
Works the same as office licenses no matter the users each connection is a license used.

So if I have 10 users.

And they have 10 laptops.

And if 5 of these 10 are logged in MES, then they occupy 10 license seats?

Or is it 10 is consumed because they represent 10 pieces of equipment – ONE for each named user? Regardless if they are on or not.

Jim
You can test this easily just look in your Admin Console for the active
users / licences it should tell you what you need to know

Does you question relate to using handheld MES?
Basic MES should be concurrent.

Good point.

How it is supposed to work in MES is that the license is only "used" when it is actively being used. It is not based on the number of users or the number of computers. If you have 10 licenses, you can have more than 10 computers and/or 10 users using the licenses at the same time. If a user has the screens open but is not actively working on it, then the license is not being consumed at that time.

This is different from the office licenses in that if you have the screens open in an office license, then you are consuming that license regardless of whether you are actively working in it or not.

That's what we we're told as well, but our experience has been otherwise. We have hit license limits on MES a few times where sessions will be locked active. It was also originally indicated to us that if a DC license is not available for MES that it should use an Office License this did not appear to be the case in practice either.

Not exactly true...

An MES license is considered in use when a user is logged in, whether they are actively using the system or not, it also depends on time outs.
The same goes for office users, it all depends on timeouts, not just whether a screen is open or not.
