When we launched in September of this year, we were not particularly happy with Window’s Kiosk Mode for the MES stations. This was due to the bugginess of Window’s Kiosk Mode and how Window’s would sometimes reset, logout, or update things with no reason to do so, even though we had set all of the normal settings not do to this.
We started to explore alternates as the quirks with the built-in Windows Kiosk were becoming an increasing nuisance for the operators, and we were hearing about all the weird things that were happening that we could not easily reproduce…
At our launch time, Window’s Kiosk was low hanging fruit and compromise - plus, it seemed to work from our end (meaning IT and not the floor-end). It also wasn’t the smoothest with regard to locking out unwanted sites or behaving well in “browser mode” vs. full kiosk. Full kiosk mode would not allow us to view PDFs or Docs from in the app, so we had to use the browser mode. In addition, there was not a very simple way to remote manage these stations.
All of this created some problems for us, enough that we started looking for a affordable alternative.
I’m not associated with or receiving any kind of remuneration with the program we decided on … I’m just putting out there for others that may be having similar problems or looking for some alternate(s) to consider or explore.
We ended up going with inteset secure browser. I’m not linking it - just google it, if you are interested in exploring an alternative beyond Window’s Kiosk for data collection - FWIW and cheers!
