Migrating to Active Directory

Two Issues:
1) When you moved to AD on your test server, a new local profile is created. When this is done, the Progress MMC snapin has to be reconfigured. This is normal. You are now loging on as adminstrator@... instead of adminstrator@localmachine or Adminstrator@....

2) I would guess that your second issue is related to security/permisions. Just a guess.

Hope that helps,
Jeremy

Subject: [Vantage] Migrating to Active Directory

We are attempting to move Vantage 6.1 over to an AD environment and we are
having issues. Vantage Tech Support currently has no answers to our
problem. I am appealing to anyone on Vantage that has successfully migrated
to Active Directory for assistance. Below is the problem as outlined by my
IT manager. You can post on list for everyone and I will forward to him or
we can go off-list if you need more direct contact with him. Thank you in
advance for your assistance.

At the present I have a production network using Microsoft NT4.0. The
domain
controllers and Exchange servers are the only ones running Windows NT4.0
operating systems on that network. All other servers on the production
network
are running Windows 2K3 server. The Vantage server is also running Windows
2K3
server as the operating system. I have an isolated test network setup that
is
running native Windows 2003 Active Directory. It has obviously a different
domain configuration. The goal is to migrate the entire production network
completely to the AD environment.

I was told by Epicor tech support that there should be no issues presented
by
the move to the AD environment. I have attempted moving the Vantage server
over to the AD environment several times and have not been able to setup any
client software on the test workstations. After migrating the Vantage
server
to the AD environment, I then had to go into Progress Explorer and re add it
as
the local host and reassign the correct password. After that, the database
would initialize and start running. I am concerned that there is some issue
with this configuration as I fail to see why I had to re-enter server/local
host information. After the attempts to migrate the Vantage server to the
AD
environment, I would return the server back to the NT production network and
it
would work correctly.

While trying to load the client software, I would get this error messages
and on
a few occasions the workstations would actually lockup. One of the error
messages was " Could not initialize installation C:\WINNT\~GLC0000.TMP"

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
