Mold Capacity Problem

The whole resource group/resource paradigm is version 8 capability. I have no idea how you would accomplish what you are after on v4 or v6.

because several parts use the same mold. The mold can only produce 5
pieces per week. That's it's maximum capacity. This mold can make 6
different part numbers (by adding mold inserts), but it can still
only make a total of 5 pieces per week. Vantage allows us to
schedule all 6 part numbers to be run in the same week for a total
quantity that exceeds 5 parts per week. I need to figure out how to
prevent us from exceeding the weekly mold capacity. Some weeks the
schedule says we should produce 15 pieces from this mold (that's 3
pieces of all 5 part numbers). So we are scheduling for over our
alotted capacity of 5 pieces per mold. Making additional molds is
not an option. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve my dilema?
We have about 30 different molds with this same scenario.

No the whole resource group and scheduling resources starts in 8.0...but
this would be a good example to move to version 8 if you weren't already
considering!

Thanks. You are right about going to 8. Unfortunately that is not in the plans for a while. We are going to version 6 first. We kind of lag behind the crowd with upgrades.

Presumably your MOM for the parts produced with the critical mold have a operations that require resources you hvae defined that model the mold equipment (not the mold itself) and/or the mold process human resources.

What you need to do is create a resource group "MOLDS" and define this particular mold as a finite resource within than resource group. Set up you finite capacity definition appropriately to achieve the 5 pc per week limitation you truely have.

Now modify the Standard Operation(s) called in the critical mold implicated MOMs so that it also requires the new finite resource you have created to represent the critical mold.

Make sure you answer yes to updating all methods after modifying the standard op(s).

Jobs now created & scheduled using these MOMs will run into a finite limit of only 5 uses of the critical mold allowed per week.
