Subject: RE: Epicor Perspectives Customer Conference - Views

I have always found the conferences to be a bargain in terms of
education.
Most of the sessions and especially the workshops offer almost all
of the
material of the full day classes but at a much faster pace.
Classroom
training usually bores the heck out of me and seems to drag
on-and-on
whereas the conference sessions give me enough hints and ideas to
figure
things out for myself. On top of this there is the session notes
book which
I refer to often all year long. Finally the #1 benefit is actually
meeting
people face to face and discussing issues much as on this board but
in
real-time. In terms of value to the company I describe it to our
VP-Finance
as the best education bang for the buck we can get.

That said, I am deeply disappointed at the location this year and
the
incredible arrogance of Epicor to book it at a place that costs $185
a
night. Most of their clientele are very cost conscious
manufacturing
operations. To top it off the hotel is now booked solid for the
night of
the 16th and they are sending people 3-1/2 miles away to a sister
property
(Rancho Las Palmas). Someone miscalaculated the turnout plus the
vendors &
exhibitors. This time of year Las Vegas is also expensive (highest
season
throughout Southwest I was told) so it would not have been much
better. I
would like to see a return to late-April or May and at least move it
back to
Las Vegas if not somewhere more central in North America. I'm sure
it saves
Epicor a lot of airfare to be so close to their HQ but this is a
"user"
conference after all. I'm flying in-out of Las Vegas and driving
down for
half the cost of flying to Palm Springs and the money I save on
Wednesday
night at the Marriott Desert Springs will pay for three nights in
Las Vegas.

The only way I have found to get a non-po invoice to hit a job is to
do a

It is
several additional steps than our old system had, because before you
can
receive against the job, there has to be a line item on the job to
receive
to.

If anyone knows of a different way, I, too, would be happy to hear

I use Job Cost Adjustments to get those costs to the job. The bad
news
there is that it creates an inventory adjustment and I have to write
a
journal entry to reverse $ to the proper G/L ledger accounts because
I
firmly believe in $0 balance in suspense type accounts. Sometimes
we get
close to 20 such adjustments per month. Not user friendly.

I would prefer to see a feature added to A/P whereby we can hit
those costs
to the job from A/P. Calvin, are we way too late in making
requests for
version 6? All the freight bills and trips to the hardware store
for
miscellaneous hardware are two perfect examples. Creating PO's for
freight
- Arrrrghhhhh!!!! Yet that is a big ticket item that should not be
overlooked on the cost of a job.

Marvin,
We just worked with Vantage support concerning the issue of
receiving 0
onhand qty for another report and this was the response:
Unfortunately, a part number has to have a least 1 in its quantity
to be
able to pull info for a report. Report cannot be run. Best way to
simulate
is to run a report of all inventory, also run a report of inventory
with
qtys on hand and compare the two.
Hope this helps! We thought we were over looking something simple
also! If
anyone knows some way to get that answer, please pass it on.

If you start with the part table, and then join to
the Part Bin table with a left out join, you will
get all parts, whether or not they have an entry

have a Part Bin record will have a ? for unknown
value. You can then set the unknown value to show

I've always found the conferences to be very beneficial-meeting the
Vantage
people as well as all of the other users, plus the session materials
are a
handy reference.

I too am very disappointed with the location this year-even though
the hotel
cost is nearly the same (wasn't it $169 at Caesar's last year?), and
even
though I will drive since it is only 120+ miles, for people not
based in
Southern California, it looked like a hardship from the get-go.
Other large
organizations (SHRM - the society of human resource managers) have
their
conferences where the largest number of "members" -- read users -
can
attend for the least amount of hassle and air fair.

Flying in to Palm Springs from other parts of the country is just
impractical

training usually bores the heck out of me and seems to drag
on-and-on

whereas the conference sessions give me enough hints and ideas to
figure

things out for myself.

I'm flying in-out of Las Vegas and driving
down for

half the cost of flying to Palm Springs and the money I save on
Wednesday

night at the Marriott Desert Springs will pay for three nights in
Las Vegas.

This will be my first Vantage conference, however, in the past our
company
has sent several persons. Due to the nearly doubled (I'm told) fee
and the
high cost of hotel/travel the decision was made to only send one
person. If
the conference cost and hotel/travel would be more reasonable I'm
fairly
certain we would be sending more than one person.

I had thought that we were one of the few companies not attending
this year
due to the location and cost. We are located in Mobile Al and
estimated the
trip to cost close to $5000 each person. We could not justify that
expense
even though the conferences are a great opportunity.

I attend last year and gain so much from the people I met and the

attention. Now,
however, my controller has been suing AR memos to keep track of

coming
up with a solution and I would love it if that person (I don't
remember who)
would share it with me!!!

Nora

The only way I have found to get a non-po invoice to hit a job is to
do a
miscellaneous receipt against the job and then invoice that receipt.
It is
several additional steps than our old system had, because before you
can
receive against the job, there has to be a line item on the job to
receive
to.

If anyone knows of a different way, I, too, would be happy to hear
it!

We have found that flying into Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles,
etc. and
then connecting to Palm Springs gets a much lower fare. The travel
agent
referenced in the Perspectives brochure also provided a much lower
airfare
rate on American direct to Palm Springs. Check with them, too
(800-356-0424). Be sure to reference Epicor to get the negotiated
lower
airfare rates.

A while back the subject of protecting shop floor PC's from
hazardous
environments came up.

If you goto http://www.raritan.com/products_c5r.htmland you will see
a
product called "Cat 5 reach".

For $ 545.00 list you can buy a pair of boxes that can be linked
with up to
650 feet of cat 5 cable to allow you to place your PC's in an office
near
the floor. ( They also have a fiber version that's good for 3,000
feet )

What you end up with is x number of pcs in an office with type 5
wire
running out into your shop where you still have monitors, keyboards,
and
mice.

Granted this doesn't protect your monitors, keyboards, and mice but
monitors
seem to hold up very well ( they just get dirty ) and keyboards and
mice are
cheap these days.

Double click on the field in RB; in the alignment properties, you
can
select word wrap. I think you may have to manually increase the
height of
the record band line; also maybe play with the field width and
format.

I think she needs to join Memo and InvcHead. Unfortunately, the
join
fields are different data types. Memo.Key1= string, and
InvcHead.InvoiceNbr = integer. I suggested Crystal might do it if
you use
one of the type conversion functions as the join field. Can R.B. do
that
at all?

Thanks, Wayne. After some playing, I have a solution using Access
by
converting the data type of the string field in memo.key1 to a text,
and
then joining that to the invoicehead table.

However, I hate using access for my reports because it goes through
ODBC,
which means

(1) it is very unstable in vantage 4
(2) I have to run it myself or install ODBC on each users machine
that needs
the report, which opens potential data issues if users figure out
how to
modify data

So, if anybody knows a way to get in Report Builder to link the memo
to the
invoice header, I would be very grateful!

I'm flying in-out of Las Vegas and driving
down for
half the cost of flying to Palm Springs and the money I save on
Wednesday
night at the Marriott Desert Springs will pay for three nights in
Las Vegas.

The only way I have found to get a non-po invoice to hit a job is to
do a
miscellaneous receipt against the job and then invoice that receipt.
It is
several additional steps than our old system had, because before you
can
receive against the job, there has to be a line item on the job to
receive
to.

If anyone knows of a different way, I, too, would be happy to hear

Flying in to Palm Springs from other parts of the country is just
impractical

We've traditionally sent a minimum of two persons (last year three),
however
due to the high cost we made a decision to boycott this year.

I had thought that we were one of the few companies not attending
this year
due to the location and cost. We are located in Mobile Al and
estimated the
trip to cost close to $5000 each person. We could not justify that
expense
even though the conferences are a great opportunity.

I attend last year and gain so much from the people I met and the
ideas
shared. I sincerely hope that there is still enough of you going
that that
is not lost. Hopefully I will see you at the next one.

HELP!

I remember a long time ago there was a discussion on this list
regarding
printing out memos. Unfortunately, this was before we archived
messages,
and at the time I wasn't using memos, so I didn't pay much
attention. Now,
however, my controller has been suing AR memos to keep track of
customers
reasons for not paying, etc. He DESPERATELY wants to see this on a
report,
and I can not figure out how to accomplish this. I remember someone
coming
up with a solution and I would love it if that person (I don't
remember who)
would share it with me!!!

Thanks!!!

We do it the same way as Sarah does. I do think the capability to
add
expenses to a job through AP without a PO is a feature that was
