So it is really hard to answer that question, since all systems are built differently.  Did you figure out what was wrong with that PN?

What determines how many processes and/or schedulers we can set? We are running three....ran better but still took 4 hours.

Tick the dynamic box next to cut off date and then select end of month + 4...... or less if you don't need to project calculations past that point.  This will greatly reduce the time if you have a large amount of sales orders and/or forecasts into the future.  Also as others have said increase the number of processes and/or schedulers..... but only to a number your system can handle.

We are running MRP ReGen every night.  The process is taking at least 5 hours or so to run nightly. Why do so long to run.  My previous job we ran MRP and it never too this long.  They do have a cut off date of about 20 years out.  Any thoughts why the process takes so long.

I asked why they running MRP ReGen nightly and they were told that it would alleviate any noise.

Thoughts?  MRP is one of my weaker areas.

Thanks
Kim

What do our logs say?

Our nightly MRP Regen process takes about 3 hours depending on the amount of Parts you have.  We were recommended to increase the number of MRP and Scheduling Processors which might help with performance but will also depend on your server settings.  Ours is currently set at 4 MRP processors and 4 schedulers and were suggested to set it at 7 MRP and 2 Schedulers.  What is your current MRP and Scheduler Processors set at when you submitted it as a nightly scheduled task?

Do you HAVE to run Regen every night?  Net change will look at anything that has changed on existing orders and jobs accordingly…takes a lot less time.

Also, you may want to look at Capabilities.  If you set this up the system tends to run faster.

Subject: [Vantage] MRP takes long time to run

We are running MRP ReGen every night.  The process is taking at least 5 hours or so to run nightly. Why do so long to run.  My previous job we ran MRP and it never too this long.  They do have a cut off date of about 20 years out.  Any thoughts why the process takes so long.

I asked why they running MRP ReGen nightly and they were told that it would alleviate any noise.

Thoughts?  MRP is one of my weaker areas.

Thanks

Kim

We used to run net change but have found that it sometimes misses orders. Plus a regen only takes an hour.  I usually run around 8pm….but last night the server reboot.  So I just ran it an hour ago with everyone on.  Still took an hour.  You should look at your logs…you could have a processor stuck.

I was told we HAVE to run ReGen to get rid of all the extra noise that no one wanted to see when they were running Net Change.

In the logs I see this following error.  After is starts the Building PsrtList Level.  Process 3 not responding. Abandoned during process 'Processing part~(part#)'

Does Process MRP need to be checked on every part?  I don't see it checked, but I am checking.

Thanks Kim

We run 12 processers and 15 schedulers and finish Regen in 1:15 to 1:30. Epicor told me to increase them until they did not speed up the process any more.  I run a separate Print appserver which is where mrp runs, so it is isolated from the user’s appserver.

The abandoned processes are the mrp process waiting for 1 hour for the part’s approved releases, sales order releases or dates to change and allow MRP to complete for that part. For us there are some things that will never be correct for that MRP run, so I have a sql script to turn off mrp on those parts to avoid as many abandoned processes as possible.

I turn on MRP only for parts on open sales order releases or have a minimum.

Turn off if the part is checked out to Engineering Workbench.

Turn off if there are no approved revisions for a part.

Thanks Kim

Do you HAVE to run Regen every night?  Net change will look at anything that has changed on existing orders and jobs accordingly…takes a lot less time.

Also, you may want to look at Capabilities.  If you set this up the system tends to run faster.

Thanks

We get that as well at times. Usually get that when there is something wrong with the BOM. For each PN you have bad, the processor will time out 1 hr.
Are you multi plant?

All your log files should be uniform.

Forgot to mention that there are 3 types of files when you select FULL logs.…the overall file, the MRP files and the scheduling files.  One of your MRP files is probably smaller than the others.  Open it and scroll all the way to the bottom.  It should tell you the issue, cannot copy BOM, no Rev Level.

If your MRP finished that is good, at least there was only one part with an issue.

True it is good if finished.  I was reading somewhere that maybe having a part in mutli plants could cause the issue but the MRP we only select the one plant.

True it is good if finished.  I was reading somewhere that maybe having a part in mutli plants could cause the issue but the MRP we only select the one plant.

If your MRP finished that is good, at least there was only one part with an issue.

Thanks Kim

We used to run net change but have found that it sometimes misses orders. Plus a regen only takes an hour.  I usually run around 8pm….but last night the server reboot.  So I just ran it an hour ago with everyone on.  Still took an hour.  You should look at your logs…you could have a processor stuck.

Do you HAVE to run Regen every night?  Net change will look at anything that has changed on existing orders and jobs accordingly…takes a lot less time.

Also, you may want to look at Capabilities.  If you set this up the system tends to run faster.

Thanks

Kim

Tick the dynamic box next to cut off date and then select end of month + 4...... or less if you don't need to project calculations past that point.  This will greatly reduce the time if you have a large amount of sales orders and/or forecasts into the future.  Also as others have said increase the number of processes and/or schedulers..... but only to a number your system can handle.
What determines how many processes and/or schedulers we can set? We are running three....ran better but still took 4 hours.

In system agent find the task and then click actions – view task parameters. You can change settings here and click process to add a new task with the new settings. You must reset the log file name before clicking process.

Refresh agent and you will now have a new mrp regen task. Delete the old one.

Check the task to see if you have multi-level pegging processing running. That will add a lot of time to the process.

On our system, we can run up to 7 & 7.  Past that we don’t see any improvement.  When our MRP runs, there is essentially no one on the system, so all the resources can be used up.  The more processes you run the more appservers will spool up.  That will increase your memory usage.

So it is really hard to answer that question, since all systems are built differently.  Did you figure out what was wrong with that PN?
