MS-Access "Out of Memory"

Todd:
I don't know if WIN2K has this feature, but in XP, I have had a couple of apps that gave me the same error and I fixed it by using the capatibility feature to run it as a WIN95 (or WIN98) app, which solved the problem very easily.

Hopefully that'll help, but again I don't know if WIN2K has the same feature.

Subject: [Vantage] MS-Access "Out of Memory"

I have a strange little irritation with Access-95. I have installed it on a new Win2K PC and am trying to have a shortcut on the desktop open and run a critical database application. When it starts to run Access I get an error message "Out of Memory". If I run Access and select the db from the "Open Database" screen it runs fine. The two ways I've tried to run it are:

C:\MSOffice\Access\MSACCESS.EXE "s:\servername\database.mdb"
and just
s:\servername\database.mdb (hoping it will associate mdb and load Access)

Both result in the Out of Memory error. Both work on most other PCs.

For various reasons we can not convert the database to a newer verson of Access. I would really like to give the user a desktop shortcut straight to the database rather than have to select it from the list, even the recent databases list.

I know on Win-98 there was an issue with the VirtualCache on machines with over 512MB RAM (this one has 1GB). Is there maybe an equivalent issue on Win2K? I can't find anything in the knowledgebase.

Thanks in advance for any clues.

Todd,

I've had something that sounds pretty similar. I've installed a couple
of new machines with access 95 on them, one with win 2k and one with XP
pro. Both of them displayed the out of memory message when the user
(who isn't an administrator) went into the shortcut for the first time.
When I logged of and logged on as myself (with administrative rights) it
loaded fine from the shortcut and the user didn't experience any more
problems!!!! I can't give you an explanation as to why this happens but
just running it as an admin seems to fix it.

Hope this helps.
