MS Office and Version 5

Don't go to patch .326 if you are on Standard Costing, but otherwise why not apply the patch before you go live? One less thing to do afterward. Same with the Dump & Load. If you do it in 4.0, I believe it will speed up your conversion as well.

One other thought. You could do a 'practice' conversion before hand (even during the week) if your server can handle it. We converted 2 times before the live one. Partly so we could have a 5.0 test database, and partly so that I was comfortable with the whole thing. If you do a practice conversion, you move your 4.0 Vantage files to a different location before you begin the 5.0 conversion process. Then you point 5.0 to that new location for the conversion. That way your old database is left untouched. Then you could try the 'fast schema changes' and see how they work. They are a little more complicated than the standard schema change.

We have only had a conflict with Microsoft products with Vantage on a machine that had Internet Explorer 4.0 on it. Installing IE 5.0 fixed the problem for us on that machine.

Have all the problems been worked out with Microsoft Office apps and
version 5?
Would like to convert to 5 in about 2-3 weeks.
Using version 4.00.902 right now.
Should we do a patch to .904 before the conversion?
Should we do a dump and load before the conversion?
Should we do a fast scheme change?
Any problems with the latest patch for 5? I think it's .326?
Any other tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, Greg Fuller

Greg,
"Have all the problems been worked out with Microsoft Office apps and
version 5?"

We've been on 5.0 since April, and use MS Office 97 and MS Office 2000. The
only issue we encountered was having to re-enter paths in document
management. Other than that there have been no errors.

"Should we do a patch to .904 before the conversion?"

We jumped from 3 to 5, Patches don't take that long to run. Personally, I'd
Patch up to the latest just for the sake of throughness.

Should we do a dump and load before the conversion?

We didn't, but our data base is small 170 Megs after upgrade. The OVUG
(Ohio Vantage User Group) says that if your data base is large and old it
would benefit from a dump and load.

Should we do a fast scheme change?

Every time I try to hurry a pot of home made soup I ruin it.

From 3.0 to an operational 5.0 took us 11 hours (does not include redoing
the report builder reports or crystal, that took me a week)

We upgraded from 3.0 to 5.0 over the fourth of July. We installed patch
926 last Friday, 7/9/01, with no problems so far.
