Multi plant or single plant

There are pros and cons of either choice. The following scenarios would
provide:

1. Multi-plant
a. Separate backlog
b. Separate WIP
c. Separate inventory
d. Requires transfers between plants
2. Single plant, multiple work centers
a. Combined backlog, possible to split using user fields and custom
backlog report
b. Combined WIP, possible to split using user fields and custom WIP
report
c. Combined inventory, possible to split using warehouses to designate
locations
d. No transfers between plants required.

As far as how things are reported on your General Ledger, that is controlled
in a number of places in the system. How you will configure these items
will depend on the decision you make on multi-plant or single plant. The
question comes down to what do you wish to see, where do you wish to see it,
and what price are you willing to pay to get there?

Subject: [Vantage] Multi plant or single plant

We recently purchased Vantage and are trying to decide whether to
set our company up as multi-plant or single plant. We have three
separate plants and need the ability to report profit and loss by
plant. We also have two separate backlogs and would like to keep
them separate, but can combine backlogs if we must.

-Plant 1 manufactures, assembles and ships complete to customers and
also sends some partially completed parts to plant 3 for assembly &
shipment. They maintain their own backlog.
-Plant 2 manufactures and sends all parts to plant 3 for assembly
and shipping.
-Plant 3 manufactures, assembles and ships parts from both plants 1
& 2. All parts from plants 1 & 2 that arrive at plant 3 require
additional work before they can be stocked. After they are stocked
they are either issued to assemblies or shipped. They maintain a
combined backlog for plants 2 & 3.

It appears that setting up as a single company with multiple work
centers would work best from a manufacturing perspective, it would
not require tranfers between plants keeping transactions to a
minimum, but we are unsure if we will be able to report profit and
loss by plant under a single company.

Any ideas on how to keep a single plant, but have separate P&L's and
separate backlogs?

A little off topic, but we use a multi-company setup. We have one
database and have set up separate companies (2) within the database (I
am not familar with the usage of multi-plants) . That way, both
facilities have their own backlog & production schedule (we DO NOT use
the multi-site module). One facility will prep all work that will be
run at either site. I can generate separate financials at the
company-level, or can generate "combined" financials. We are currently
in the process of adding a 3rd company to the mix.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!
