Non manufactured, non-stock part on Sales order (8.03)

Here is what some place do, because of the 2 things that make this tricky:

1 time shipping to customer

NON-STOCK part

What I have recommended in the past is a generic part number (you can edit the description on the sales order all day long).  Call it GENERIC, WHATEVER, etc…you get the point.  But give it something people will notice that is not part of your “normal” routine.

The description is what will help you in the long run.

The generic part number is what people will take notice at shipping time.

Just my 2 cents….

Subject: [Vantage] Non manufactured, non-stock part on Sales order (8.03)

We often have to include items that we don't manufacture and are only purchased for that specific order (i.e. Part on The Fly) on our Sales Orders.  Currently we make a Job to 'make the item', so we can purchase it to that job, and then ship it to the customer.

This seems like unnecessary extra work, since no labor is added to the part.  We only do it this way so that we can purchase the part without  having to create a Part in the Part Master.

Recap:

1. The part might only ever be used on this one order

2. There is nothing done to the item.  Sometimes it is direct shipped to the customer.

3. Item must appear as its own line on the Sales Order

Thanks in advance,

Calvin
