Off Topic - Finite Element Analysis Software

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions...now they at least have some
names to check out.

That's one of the best things about this list: somebody always has some
answers!!!

Hello, all:

Our engineering department is looking for a small (read not $20,000-the one
quote we have) Finite Element Analysis software package. Since I have only
a vague notion of what this is, I thought may some of you had been involved
in finding/choosing/installing/dealing with something like this and could
pass on some recommendations.

Feel free to contact me off-list.

Thanks in advance,

Take a look at Solidworks and Cosmos. Cosmos is an add on to Solidworks for
FEA. It costs around $6500. Solidworks is around $5000.

I thought Solidworks did FEA by itself?

First of all good luck in finding a variety of these for your type of
business to pick from. We use DEFORM and it was in the price range you
noted. We calculate stress and fail points in the products we manufacture
and found it accurate. You will want a hefty pc to minimize its calculation
times.
