Paul,
Maybe WD has changed there RMA policy. I've always gotten a 'refub.' for my warranty returns on bad WD. Then the refurb. goes bad after that.

Todd,
Personally I don't have the best experience with Western Digital drives, and
especially the unreliable bearings they use. As the matter of fact, the
only drives I have seen and heard failing are the WD Caviars. Usually you
will get the louder than normal whine, grinding and clicking. From what you
describe and my experiences you still have a few days to get your important
data off of the drive, but don't wait too long.
In WD's defense; their RMA department has gotten extremely efficient in
replacing failed HD's with blank new ones. Even for failed drives that were
waaay outside of the warranty period.
HTH,
Paul

Anyone have any experience with Western Digital 120gb, 7200 rpm IDE drives?
Just received one and it sounds like a tiny router buzzing away ... from
across the room.
I'm trying to decide if this is the nature of the beast ...
Thanks,
Todd Anderson
