[off topic] Hiring a Temp to Set up Network - Quest ions to Ask

My $.02: find someone who will document (either electronic or hard copy)ALL
of the set-up information. Then if they disappear, or if you move on,
someone has a vague notion of what was done. The company that does all of
my "hardware support," which includes setting up servers, routers, switches
and so on, has a book with all the info, and they update it each time
something changes. Then their tech only has to look at the book, instead of
spending two or three billable hours figuring out what things are supposed
to look like.

In addition to Judd's advice....
Make sure they have access to MS technical support sites (the ones they have
to pay for). Also, find someone who is comfortable with you looking for
their shoulder and letting you "learn on them". This way when they are gone
you have some clue what the did and why. There are also a lot of preference
settings in AD so you will need someone who will ask you how you want things
instead of going ahead and doing it "their way".

The best suggestion I can give you:

Look for someone who has experience not certifications

Get customer names from the person where they have set up networks, in other
words proven results from other people.

Make sure the person has worked with active dir. Again get references.

Look local for a computer/ network company and talk to some of their
customers. If the sales person selling the service talks a lot about how
their techs are certified and hold many certs that could mean the techs are
only certified and do not have experience.

Take it from a tech who has 13 years exp in almost any office equiptement
and computers. You want someone who is fast, exact, and knowledge.

Pricing in our area is around 120.00 /hr. do not ask a service company to
run wire. Find a different source for that. Techs can put the ends on the
wire but usually are not good with running the wire.

Subject: [Vantage] [off topic] Hiring a Temp to Set up Network - Questions
to Ask

Hello Everyone,

My boss finally gave me to okay to have someone come in and set up the
Network properly (i.e. active directory...). Due to my lack of
knowledge on networking. I know enought to be dangerous but not enough
to get this done fast....

I was wondering what type of questions to ask this person or what type
of requirements? I do not want someone who is going to "learn" on me.
I can do that myself.
