Off Topic - IIS security patch

You all really need to consider this patch if you have a web page on a
server. My server was scanned the other night. It doesn't look like there
as any damage......so far. Patch goes on tonight! I have some information
from another users group. If you want to see it contact me off the list.

I would recommend to everyone that you install this patch today.
We were one of the unfortunate companies who had their web site hacked.
Let me tell you it is pretty shocking to be called by vendors and customers
and asked...
"have you looked at your web site lately?"

We were semi-fortunate as only our home page was replaced, but the damage
could have been greater.

So if you have a "simple web site" make a secondary copy to your hard disk.
It takes less time to recover off a disk than a tape.

Has anyone applied the IIS security patch? There are different patches
for
NT 4 or Windows 2000, but I have both servers, and I was wondering if
there
are any problems with the patches?
for NT4 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS00-078.asp

for W2k http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS01-023.asp

thanks

I have applied the patch for Windows 2000 and IIS 5. I haven't seen any
problems at all. Response times seem to be a little quicker than before.
Installation is quick.

I didn't apply the patch yet. Instead I followed one of the Microsoft Recommendations for removing ISAPI printing from the Web Server. It seemed faster and easier to do quickly. We don't do anyInternet printing anyway.

Nancy,

I just put the patches (all critical updates) on a Win2K Server running
IIS 5 and had no problems. This computer doesn't run any Progress or
Vantage applications though.

I didn't apply any patches yet to my NT4 machine running the Vantage
apps.
