[Off Topic] Windows NT Broadcast Message

Windows 9.x computers come with a utility called winpopup.exe that has to be
running to receive the messages sent with Net Send.

there are numerous Pop-up messaggin utilities for NT i.e., NTPop-up, etc...
they are all based upon Windows "Net Send" command.

from a command prompt type: net send <userid> or <machinename> or <domain>

From the Server Manager program on the NT Server, select the server from the
list of nodes. Then from the Computer menu, select send message. This will
open a dialog for you to type the message. It will send to all computers
attached to that server.

If your clients are NT or Win2k, this will work. If they are 95/98, I believe you have to make sure thatï¿½Windows Messaging is setup on each machine, first. Once messaging is set up, you can also use the command line to send a message. From a command prompt type

NET SEND * "Message to send"ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ --- sends to everyone
orï¿½ï¿½ NET SEND username "Message to Send"ï¿½ï¿½ ---sends to specific user
